grey board (chipboard/DaveyBoard/book board) right through to stitching in the

Artists' Books

Artists' books are handmade books with content, made by artists as actual
objets d'art in and of themselves (as opposed to handmade books
and journals constructed with blank pages ready for others to fill). Artists'
books are usually one-offs, absolutely unique, although the actual construction of the book can be a particular recognised style
... or a completely unique invention.
Coptic Books

Invented by the Coptic monks in Africa, in the 10th
Century, their bibles were constructed from vellum (made from tanned animal
hides) with metal or wood covers. To bind these huge books (some the size of a
small coffee table) a completely different stitching method was invented, and
signatures were bound with leather lacing, with exposed stitching
showing at the spine.
Journals & Sketchbooks

Blank books made with gorgeous papers, perfect for filling with collage,
sketches, pen-and-ink drawings, watercolours, acrylics - or just lots of
shopping lists! There's nothing sadder than a row of blank books, waiting for
someone to fill them up with ideas, so just write something - anything!

The typical photo album - the one we think of as soon as the words "photo
album" are mentioned. However, this is a book type with many possibilities and
variations. All those scrapbooks (12in x 12in memory books etc) are made this way.
